Sales Process

Introduction

Most B2B SaaS founders start selling the same way — through hustle, relationships, and instinct. That works until it doesn't. The moment you need another person to sell effectively, or you're juggling fifteen deals and can't remember which ones need what, the lack of a repeatable process starts costing you real money. A sales process isn't bureaucracy. It's the difference between a founder who is the sales team and a founder who has one.

Why It Matters

Without a defined process, every deal follows a slightly different path. That makes it nearly impossible to diagnose why deals stall, why your cycle length keeps creeping up, or why a rep who seemed strong in interviews can't close. A clear process gives you three things that matter immediately: visibility into where each deal actually stands (not where your gut says it stands), the ability to spot and fix the specific stage where you're bleeding opportunities, and a playbook that lets new hires ramp without shadowing you for three months.

How to Use It

Start simple. Map out the stages a deal actually moves through today — not an idealised version, but what's really happening. For each stage, write down what needs to be true before a deal enters it and what needs to happen before it moves forward. Then track two numbers religiously: conversion rate between stages and time spent in each stage. Those two metrics alone will tell you exactly where your process is breaking. Refine from there. The goal isn't a perfect process on day one — it's a process that gets better every month because you can finally see what's working and what isn't.
